Tweedmouth Amateurs 3 Greenlaw 103/09/2011
The Amateurs progressed in to the next round of the Wright Cup with a convincing win over Greenlaw, who had humiliated them with a 4-0 hammering in the league. With players back from holidays and injuries the squad is getting stronger, making for a good contest for places.
Tweedmouth started strong and could have had a few goals in the first half, with Clark and Robertson both hitting the crossbar and Aitchison hitting the post but it was all square at half time. The second half was much the same with the home side putting Greenlaw under pressure, but it was Greenlaw who drew first blood from a free kick which was headed back across goal for the Greenlaw forward to knock in.
The home side had 35 minutes to turn things around, which they did when Robertson levelled the score from 3 yards. All the Amateurs pressure paid off when Colquhoun broke free and got in behind Greenlaws back four and he made no mistake with a shot in to the bottom right hand corner. Robertson had to come off with a head injury and Drummond replaced him and from his own throw in the Greenlaw defender could only head it back to him and with a shot from a tight angle, he left the Greenlaw keeper with no chance.
The home sides defence which was marshelled by Phillips all played well, but it was that man Drummond who stole the show, when he came on as a makeshift centre forward he held the ball up well and brought the midfield in to play. This was a little payback from Tweedmouth who are starting to show to signs of the football they can play.

Tweedmouth Colts 5 Gala Athletic 003/09/2011
Tweedmouth kicked off their cup campaign with a good performance at home to new boys in the league Gala Athletic.
The Colts opened the scoring when Mikey Patterson rounded the keeper from a Jordan Clark through ball and finished well. Patterson then bagged his second and the prolific John 'Jeeves' Grieve sublimely added the third from Matthew Clark's driven corner. Patterson then completed his hat trick with the aid of a David Brown pinpoint pass.
The Colts battled through the first half and at times played some slick football, cutting open the Gala defense and were very deserving of their lead and possibly more. The second half saw debutants Cameron Inglis and Ross Williamson put on performances which will make the Colts very happy with their new signings.
Tweedmouth sat back and took control of the game in the second half, looking very comfortable on the ball and playing some very good football. This was visible in the attitudes of the away team, getting very heated and when their goalkeeper was sent off and their centre back booked, all hope was gone for Gala. The game was finished off with 20 minutes to go when Jordan Clark fired the ball into the bottom corner past the stand in Gala 'keeper. The away side can think themselves lucky that the Colts didn't go further in front; the home side stringing 10 and 15 passes together at will in the last half hour.
The Colts can be very happy with this performance and take nothing but positives away from a comfortable win, hoping for success in the cup and the league this season.

Gala Hotspur 6 Tweedmouth Colts 3 27/08/2011
The young Colts traveled to the much fancied Gala Hotspur for their first game of the new season.
They found themselves two goals down after 30 minutes through individual errors, but their fighting spirit drew them level going into the half time break, via goals from Matthew Clark and Mikey Patterson.
Tweedmouth began the second half on top with Stephen Henderson and Dave 'The Pole' Bugiel causing havoc down the flanks. Three more individual errors allowed Gala to take a foothold in the game and go 5 - 2 up, just before Patterson was up-ended in the box and converted the resulting penalty.
Gala grabbed a sixth when a very dubious refereeing decision resulted in a penalty and young Jack Ramsay being sent off, when in fact he very clearly won the ball with a great tackle, this killed off any hopes the young side had of taking anything from the game.
The young Colts must learn that concentration and self discipline will be key in what could, and should be a successful season for them. They played some great football and were the better team for more than sixty minutes, with individual errors proving costly on the day.

Ancrum 3 Tweedmouth Amateurs 227/08/2011
Tweedmouth were left distraught after throwing away a two goal lead to lose away to Ancrum on Saturday.
The game was fairly even in the first half, with chances squandered by both sides. The first big chance fell to Ancrum, after Drummond was adjudged to have fouled the Ancrum forward, resulting in a penalty. Drummond was reprieved when the Tweedmouth goalkeeper saved well to his right.
Tweedmouth took advantage and took the lead shortly after, with Robertson causing havoc in the Ancrum backline and taking advantage to score from close range. Into the second half Tweedmouth were in control and added a second, when Tait struck from the edge of the box, deceiving the Ancrum goalkeeper.
Into the last ten minutes Tweedmouth collapsed, after some long balls into the Amateurs box were poorly dealt with, leading to Ancrum scoring three in quick succession. This was a harsh lesson for Tweedmouth, but they can take positives from an improved performance.
Tweedmouth Amateurs 0 Greenlaw 423/08/2011
Tweedmouth were left humiliated after a comprehensive defeat against Greenlaw on Tuesday night. The same issues which contributed to a dissapointing draw against Selkirk were present here. The Amateurs inability to defend from set pieces and poor finishing were the main reasons behind the heavy defeat, though Greenlaw must be credited for their performance.
The game started in feisty fashion, with some chances squandered by both sides. Greenlaw took a quick 2 goal lead after bad marking and slow reactions from the Tweedmouth goalkeeper. The Amateurs improved as the half wore on, but couldn't force a goal.
At half time the manager changed the Tweedmouth lineup and formation, but an immediate suckerpunch after the restart deflated any notion of an Amateurs come-back. Greenlaw were 3-0 up and despite not dominating possession were well worth their lead. A fourth was added with 20 minutes remaining, again due to sloppy defending from a corner.
Tweedmouth will have to vastly improve their defending and finishing if they are to have any success this season.
Tweedmouth Amateurs 2 Selkirk Victoria 220/08/2011
Tweedmouth started the new season with a draw against Selkirk at the 5 arches on Saturday. The Amateurs started well, penning Selkirk into their half but were unable to find the net, which would be the story of the day. Tweedmouth took the lead on the 25 minute mark, when Tait picked out Robertson, who proceeded to slot the ball past the Selkirk keeper.
Selkirk quickly equalised, in fortunate circumstances, after a ball into the box ricocheted in after the Tweedmouth goalkeeper attempted to punch clear. This was a bitter blow for Tweedmouth and it gave Selkirk the lift they needed. Selkirk bagged a second late in the first half after Tait lost his man from a free kick. A well placed header gave the Tweedmouth keeper no chance. Late in the second half a golden chance fell to Robertson, who failed to convert.
Into the second half Tweedmouth dominated possession for large periods, but were unable to find a way past the Selkirk keeper, with efforts from Phillips and Clark denied. The equaliser came with 20 minutes to go, with Aitchison volleying home from a well worked corner. The Amateurs pushed for a winner but their finishing let them down on the day.
Tweedmouth can be glad they didn't lose but this was definetly 2 points lost and their finishing will have to improve, if they are to win games against tricky opponents such as Selkirk.
